New York City: Day 1

Todd and I got the opportunity to go to New York with my mom the first week of September.  We had such a fun time.  We stayed with my mom, her aunt, Jeff and Kari for 4 days and then Todd and I got some alone time and stayed by ourselves for the rest of the week.  This was our first real trip away from the kids.  We were so excited and enjoyed every minute of it.  We did miss our boys though and enjoyed face timing and talking to them on the phone.  I am so greatful for modern technology that allowed us to do that.

We took the red eye flight out of Phoenix on Friday night.  We got what little sleep we could on the flight and then arrived in New York City at 6:20am.  We dropped our bags off at the hotel and started exploring.  A lady in our neighborhood told me about the Waffles and Dinges truck and we knew we wanted to try it, so that was our first stop for breakfast.  We were quite lucky to have Todd with us because he immedietly figured out the confusing subway system and navigated us through the city.  This truck was so yummy.  They had a throwdown with Bobby Flay a couple of years ago and I believe the waffle truck won.  Everything was delicious.  My favorite was the throwdown waffle that won.  It was a liege waffle with speculoos and whipped cream on top.  When we asked the guy what speculoos was he told us that it was free range unicorn tears of happiness and organic kids birthday party laughter.  It was so funny coming from this guy from Belguim with his little accent.  We brought some speculoos home with us.  It is so good.  It actually tastes a little like gingerbread, but it is so yummy.  Todd and I went back to the truck two more times for breakfast.

This is my mom and her aunt Barbara.  They were quite the troopers with us.  I think we ran them a little ragad with all the walking we did.

We couldn't check into our hotel room until 4pm, so we had quite a lot of time to kill.  We knew we wanted to go to a matinee show, so we headed to Times Square and bought our tickets.  We were tired and hoped to get into our hotel but it wouldn't be ready until 4pm.  Since we had some time to kill we headed over to Grand Central Station to explore.  The Michael Jordan restraunt was there.  Jeff wanted to eat there so bad just because it was Jordan's restraunt, but he was okay with a picture by the sign.

Our matinee show was quite the bust.  It was too dirty to sit through and we ended up leaving after the first act.  We felt so bad losing the money for an expensive show, but felt so good for having the courage to leave.  We were not done with our day though.  That night, after we put the ladies to bed, we went back to Times Square to eplore some more.  It was super busy and we didn't enjoy it too much.  And were so exhausted but we still had fun.  There is this huge screen that shows the people walking around the street.  See if you can spot Todd, Jeff, Kari and I.  Hint I am taking a picture.
As we were walking around Todd had a semi conversation with some guy trying to get us to buy tickets to a comedy show.  He asked us if we wanted to go to a really funny comedy show.  Todd said no.  Then he asked us if we wanted to go to a mediocre comedy show.  Todd just kept walking.  The guy said he wasn't going to follow us and then he said thanks for almost having a conversation with him.  It was really funny.  Probably only if you were there.  I would imagine those guys say the same thing every few minutes so they have to get a little creative to catch people's attention.
I don't think I have ever slept so good in a hotel room as I did that night.
