New York City: The rest of the week

The rest of our week in New York featured broadway shows and a food tour.  Before we left, I had some friends tell me places that we should eat and sights we should see.  Of course, I wanted to try everything so that is what we did.  Our first day that it was just Todd and I, we decided that we would try to get Rush tickets for the show Once.  We stood in line for about an hour and by the time we got there, the rush tickets were gone.  We decided to buy tickets anyway.  Once is held in Jacob's theater so we made sure to take a picture of the sign for our Jacob.

Next we took the air tram over the Roosevelt Bridge and hung out there for a little while.  There is not much to see there, so we just took a little walk and then got back on the tram and came back over to Manhattan.  The view of the skyline was pretty cool though.

Kari was dying to see the Naked Cowboy while we were there.  I think we saw him walking into a building but it was just a glance.  So while we were on our way to see Once, I saw him and snapped a picture really quickly.  He is kind of disgusting.

Wednesday night we went and saw Once.  It was amazing.  We were watching America's Got Talent one night and this group was on singing a song that we really liked.  I told Todd that they were amazing and should win and didn't really think anything else about the group.  Well the next day, Todd told me that the group performing was the cast of the Broadway show Once.  He had listened to a few other songs from the musical and said that it would be good.  When we got to New York it was on our list of must see musicals.  It was wonderful.  The cast members play all the music and it was just a beautiful show.  If you are ever in New York, you should totally see this show.  We were so mad that we didn't choose Once as our matinee musical the Saturday before.  It was truly enjoyable and everytime I hear the music from the play, I want to watch the show again.

The next morning, our food tour began.  We started with donuts from the Doughnut Plant.  It was the beginning of our day completely surrounded by food.  After donuts we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.  That thing is huge.  Somebody had told me about this cafe in Brooklyn that had apple pie that was too die for, so we headed over there for some pie.  The place was called Four and Twenty Blackbirds.  It was super cute and the pie was really good.

Manhattan

We didn't really enjoy being off Manhattan so we quickly made it back there and went over to the theater district.  Thursday aftermoon, we had tickets to Jimmy Fallon and that night we had tickets to Wicked.  Jimmy was really funny.  Our hands hurt and our voices were tired from clapping and screaming so much.  It was cool to see how things work for the show especially when we watched it.  The guests on the show were Claire Danes and Jeff Probst (from Survivor).  We sat in the second row to the side right next to the Roots.  I got to high five Jimmy at the end of the show.  It was a lot of fun.
Next, we found dinner and headed over to the theater to see Wicked.  We were lucky enough to see the show when they came to Tempe last winter, but seeing it in New York was so much better.  I could understand their words and the story so much more.  We had a great time.
Friday, was our final day in New York.  We were exhausted to say the least.  Our money was gone and we were ready to come home.  We made sure to walk over to the Empire State Building and look up (it was too cloudy and we were too cheap to go up).

We bought a few things to take home and then we just explored and hung out in our hotel room and rested. That evening we decided to go on a little walking tour and visit the bakery (Roccos) that we enjoyed so much. I think it was in Greenwich village.  We had so much fun.  We probably ate four different desserts that night and just shared everything.  The streets were crowded and we took a little rest in a park where Todd got propositioned for weed.  Some guy walked up to Todd (the guy was wearing a Jazz jersey).  Todd was talking to him about how much he liked the Jazz when all of the sudden, the guy said, "you want some weed."  We didn't really understand him and he and we moved on rather quickly after that.  We got quite the laugh about it afterwards.
We had such a good time in New York.  The food was amazing and I can't wait to go back again sometime.  We would definetly save our money ahead of time, so we could go to lots of shows again.  I would go again in a heartbeat.  Thanks mom for the invite and Bonnie for watching the boys.
